Which bag filter housing size do I need?

Start from the filter bag. Bag sizes are an industry standard, so the housing size follows the bag you plan to use.

A #2 bag is twice as long as a #1 bag, so it gives roughly twice the filter area in the same diameter. If you are unsure between #1 and #2, choose #2 unless you are short of height. Send us your flow rate, fluid and micron rating and we will confirm the size.

What is a bag filter housing?

A bag filter housing holds a filter bag inside a stainless steel basket. Liquid flows into the bag, solids stay inside, and the bag is lifted out and replaced when it is full. Bag filters hold a lot of dirt for their cost. They are used for process water, cooling water, paint, chemicals, food oils and as a pre-filter ahead of cartridge filters.

Choosing a micron rating

Our polypropylene needle-felt bags are sold in 5, 25 and 100 µm nominal ratings for size #2. Nominal means the bag captures most, not all, particles of that size. Start coarse (100 µm) for heavy dirt and step down to 25 or 5 µm for finer clarity. If you need absolute ratings, other materials or #1 bags, ask us.

What to check before you add to cart

  • Bag size and the ring style of the bags you already use.
  • Inlet and outlet size and thread (NPT or BSP). For #1 and #2 housings we confirm the port with you by email after the order.
  • Fluid, flow rate, operating pressure and temperature.
  • SUS304 or SUS316. SUS304 is the standard model; SUS316 is quoted separately for #1 and #2 and offered as an option for #3, #4 and multi-bag.

When should I change the bag?

Change the bag when the pressure difference between inlet and outlet reaches the limit given by the bag maker, or when flow drops noticeably.

FAQ

Are filter bags included with the housing?

No. The housing comes with its basket. Bags are sold separately, for example our polypropylene filter bag, size #2.

Will bags from another brand fit?

Usually, if the bag size and ring style match. Standard #2 bags are made by many suppliers. Check the ring style against the housing before ordering, or send us a photo.

Can I buy a bag filter housing online, or do I need a quote?

The SUS304 #1, #2, #3 and #4 models and the multi-bag starting models can be added to cart at the listed price. For SUS316 #1 or #2, special flanges, more bags or other sizes, see custom bag and multi-cartridge filter housings.
