What is a multi-cartridge housing?

Also called a security filter or precision filter housing, it holds several cartridges side by side, so one housing can handle the flow of many single housings. It is the standard pre-filter ahead of reverse osmosis (RO) systems and is widely used for process water, food and beverage, and chemical filtration.

How many cartridges do I need?

It depends on your flow rate, the micron rating and how dirty the liquid is. Finer ratings and dirtier liquids need more cartridges for the same flow, and longer 30 in and 40 in cartridges add flow without a wider vessel. Send us your flow rate, liquid and micron rating and we will size the housing for you.

Which cartridges go inside?

These housings take 2.5 in diameter cartridges, the same family used in our 2.5 in single housings. Check two things before you order:

• Length: the cartridge length must match the housing (20, 30 or 40 in). Measure the real length of the cartridge you use, as nominal sizes are often a little shorter.
• End style: double open end (DOE) or single open end (SOE) with 222 or 226 O-rings. The cartridge seat inside the housing is made for one style, so tell us which you use. We confirm it by email before production.

Industrial or sanitary?

• Industrial (SUS304 / SUS316): threaded or flanged ports, confirmed after the order.
• Sanitary (SUS316L): quick-open lid and tri-clamp ports for food, beverage and pharmaceutical lines. See sanitary tri-clamp filters for what we need to know about your line.

Multi-cartridge or bag filter?

Cartridge housings suit cleaner liquids and finer filtration, such as protecting RO membranes. Bag filter housings suit heavier dirt loads, and the bags are quick to change. Many systems use a bag filter first and a multi-cartridge housing after it.
