Stainless Steel Whole House Water Filter Housings

A whole house water filter sits on the main supply line where water enters the building, so every tap, appliance and water heater gets filtered water. We make the stainless steel part of that system: the filter housing and reusable stainless mesh cartridges, plus PP sediment cartridges. Our range removes sand, rust, scale flakes and silt. It does not remove chlorine, taste, odour, hardness or dissolved chemicals.

Why a stainless steel housing?

  • No plastic bowl to crack. The housing body is SUS304 stainless steel, or SUS316 made to order.
  • Reusable cartridge option. A stainless mesh cartridge can be rinsed and refitted instead of being thrown away.
  • Standard cartridge sizes. The housings take common 2.5 in and 4.5 in jumbo cartridges, so you are not tied to one brand.

Which housing for which home?

Supply Usual size Our part
Flat or small home, 3/4 in or 1 in main 2.5 in x 10 or 20 in cartridge Whole house sediment filter kit (housing + mesh cartridge), or the housing alone: 2.5 in housing with drain, 2.0 mm clamp housing
Larger home, well or borehole, 1 in to 2 in main 4.5 in jumbo x 10, 20 or 30 in cartridge Whole house sediment filter kit in jumbo size, or the 4.5 in jumbo housing alone

The kit is one housing with a 100 mesh stainless cartridge already fitted, in NPT or BSP (G) threads at the same price. Already have a cartridge? Check it with the cartridge fit checker. On a private well? See sediment filter for well water.

Cartridges

A common set-up is a coarse mesh stage followed by a finer PP stage. For the drinking water or RO stage after it, see RO pre-filter housings.

Points to check before you order

  • Mains pressure. Tell us your supply pressure and we will confirm the housing. We do not publish a pressure rating for the housings. If your pressure is over 6 bar, fit a pressure reducing valve before a mesh cartridge.
  • Hot water. Fit the filter on the cold supply, before the water heater. Mesh cartridges are rated to 60 °C.
  • Pipe size and thread. Match the port to your main: 3/4 in or 1 in for 2.5 in housings, 1 in to 2 in for jumbo. See NPT vs BSP threads.
  • Space and access. Leave room under the housing to remove the cartridge, and fit isolation valves either side so you can change it without draining the house.
  • Salty or coastal water. Chlorides attack stainless steel. Choose SUS316; see 304 vs 316 stainless steel.
  • Local rules. Work on the incoming main may need a qualified plumber where you live.

FAQ

Is this filter approved for drinking water?

No. Our housings and cartridges do not carry NSF, WaterMark, WRAS or other drinking-water approvals. Check your local rules before fitting them on a potable supply.

Will it remove chlorine or soften the water?

No. It is a sediment filter for sand, rust and silt. Chlorine needs a carbon filter and hardness needs a softener; neither is part of our range.

Does the housing come with a cartridge?

The whole house sediment filter kit includes a 100 mesh stainless cartridge. Housings bought on their own come without cartridges.

How often do I change the cartridge?

It depends on how much sediment your water carries. When the flow drops, rinse a mesh cartridge or replace a PP cartridge.

How is shipping charged?

Housings and cartridges ship free to the UK, EU, Australia, New Zealand and the US. US orders ship DDP. In-stock SUS304 items ship within 7 days. See the FAQ.
