Brewery Filter Housings for Beer & Kombucha
Stainless steel filter housings and strainers for small breweries, brewpubs and kombucha makers. Brewing lines usually connect with tri-clamp (TC) fittings, so this page groups the parts by where they sit on the line. We do not say a filter suits your beer or kombucha until we know your conditions; the checklist below lists what to send us.
Which part for which stage?
| Where on the line | What it does | Part |
|---|---|---|
| Before a transfer pump | Catches hop debris, fruit pieces or gasket fragments so they do not reach the pump | 1.5 in TC inline strainer, straight or L-type. Screen mesh is confirmed on the order. |
| Single line, cartridge filtration | Holds one 4.5 in jumbo cartridge (10, 20 or 30 in) with TC ends | 4.5 in jumbo housing with 50.5, 64 or 77.5 mm ferrules. A general-purpose housing with TC ends, not a 316L sanitary design. |
| Higher flow, several cartridges | Holds 3, 5 or 7 cartridges of 20 in in one vessel | 316L sanitary multi-cartridge housing, made to order. TC size, surface finish and pressure rating are confirmed by email before production. |
| Batch straining with filter bags | Uses a #1 or #2 filter bag; bags are easy to change when the solids load is high | Single bag filter housing. Ports are confirmed after the order. |
| Every clamp joint | Spare seals | Silicone TC gasket, 50.5 mm, single or 10-pack. Ask for 64 mm or 77.5 mm. |

Beer: points to check
- Hot side. Tell us the temperature at the point you want to filter. Our stainless mesh cartridges are rated to 60 °C, so they are not for hot wort or hot cleaning cycles above that.
- Cold side. Unfiltered beer carries yeast and haze, which can block a fine cartridge quickly. A coarser strainer or bag first usually extends cartridge life. We cannot promise a filter will not block.
- Cleaning. Send your CIP chemicals, strength, temperature and contact time. They decide the gasket material and whether SUS304 is enough or SUS316 is the better choice.
Kombucha: points to check
- Acidity. Kombucha is acidic. Tell us the pH and how long the liquid stays in the housing; this helps decide between SUS304 and SUS316. See 304 vs 316 stainless steel.
- SCOBY and culture strands. These clog fine media fast. Straining with a mesh strainer or filter bag before any cartridge is the usual order. See filter bag micron ratings.
- Flavour and fruit additions. Fruit pulp and herbs add solids; size the strainer or bag for the heaviest batch, not the average one.
Before you order, send us
- What is filtered (wort, finished beer, kombucha, juice, rinse water) and at which stage.
- Flow rate, and the solids you want to remove with the micron level you aim for.
- Temperature while filtering and while cleaning.
- Ferrule size: measure the ferrule outside diameter (50.5 mm = 1.5 in, 64 mm = 2 in, 77.5 mm = 2.5 in), not the pipe.
- Whether your site needs a sanitary design, a specific surface finish or material certificates.

FAQ
Are your housings certified for food or beverage use?
No. Our housings do not carry food-contact, sanitary or drinking-water certifications. If your site or customer requires them, check before ordering.
Can I filter hot wort?
Not with our stainless mesh cartridges, which are rated to 60 °C. Send us the temperature and we will tell you which parts can be considered.
What is the difference between the jumbo housing and the sanitary multi-cartridge housing?
The jumbo housing holds one 4.5 in cartridge and has TC ends on a general-purpose body. The multi-cartridge housing holds 3, 5 or 7 cartridges in a 316L sanitary design and is made to order.
Do strainers and housings come with gaskets?
The inline strainer is sold without clamp gaskets. Order silicone TC gaskets separately.
How is shipping charged?
Standard housings and strainers ship free to the UK, EU, Australia, New Zealand and the US. Multi-cartridge and bag housings are quoted for shipping after the order. See the FAQ.
Need a size or port we do not list? See custom filter housings.
